Why the regain happens

Almost nobody plans the end de a diet. The deficit ends abruptly, appetite is elevated, habits were temporary, and the food that produced the loss disappears overnight. The failure isn't willpower — it's that maintenance was never designed, only hoped for.

What metabolic adaptation actually is

In a prolonged deficit, expenditure falls by more than the weight loss alone predicts: less spontaneous movement, some hormonal shifts, a smaller body costing less to run. It's real but frequently exaggerated online. It doesn't make fat loss impossible; it means the numbers move and you should expect to recalculate.

The structured exit

Add calories back deliberately — roughly 100-200 per week, mostly carbohydrates — until you reach your estimated new maintenance. Peso will rise a little from glycogen and food volume; that isn't fat regain, and expecting it prevents the panic that sends people straight back into a deficit.

Diet breaks during the cut

Planned periods at maintenance for one to two weeks, every six to twelve weeks de dieting, make long fat-loss phases far more tolerable and don't meaningfully slow total progress. Most people who fail at long diets would have succeeded with breaks built in.

Maintenance is a skill, not a default

It requires deciding what your weekly weigh-in cadence is, what your upper bound is before you act, what your training looks like now, and which habits from the diet you're keeping permanently. Written down, not assumed.

Most people can execute this alone. The ones who stall usually need someone auditing the details — that's what coaching is for.

The honest part

Most people need one or two cycles to learn this. The ones who keep the results aren't the ones who lost fastest — they're the ones who treated maintenance as the actual goal and the diet as a phase.

Preguntas Frecuentes

Is reverse dieting scientifically proven?

The gradual approach is a practical strategy rather than a strongly evidenced protocol. The underlying point — plan your exit — is well supported.

How long should a diet break be?

One to two weeks at maintenance is the common recommendation.

Will I gain fat coming out de a deficit?

Some weight returns as glycogen and food volume. Fat regain only happens in a surplus.
