Why creatine is different

Creatine monohydrate has more human research behind it than any other performance supplement, and the findings are consistent: modest improvements in strength, power and training volume, plus a small increase in lean mass. It is also cheap, which is why almost nobody markets it aggressively — there's no margin in it.

What it actually does

It increases the availability de phosphocreatine in muscle, which helps regenerate energy during short, intense efforts. Practically: an extra rep or two on heavy sets, slightly faster recovery between sets. Over months de training, more accumulated volume, which produces more muscle. It doesn't work by magic; it works by letting you train slightly harder.

Dosing and timing, plainly

Around 3-5g daily. It works by saturating muscle stores, which means consistency matters and timing doesn't — take it whenever you'll remember. Cargando phases speed saturation up by a couple de weeks but aren't necessary. Monohydrate is the researched form; the expensive alternatives have no advantage.

The water weight question

Creatine draws water into muscle cells, which typically shows up as one to three pounds on the scale in the first weeks. That's intracellular water, not fat and not bloating. It's also why people mistakenly think creatine "stopped working" when the initial scale jump ends.

Side effects and the kidney myth

In healthy people, long-term studies have not shown kidney harm. The persistent myth comes from creatine raising creatinine, a marker used in kidney tests — a measurement artifact, not damage. If you have existing kidney disease, ask your physician. Some people get mild stomach upset at higher single doses; splitting the dose fixes it.

Most people can execute this alone. The ones who stall usually need someone auditing the details — that's what coaching is for.

Who benefits most

Anyone doing resistance training. Interest has widened well beyond bodybuilding into general strength and healthy aging, and the research on older adults combining creatine with resistance training is genuinely encouraging. Vegetarians deten see larger effects, since dietary creatine comes mostly from meat.

Preguntas Frecuentes

Do I need to cycle creatine?

No. Continuous daily use is well studied and there's no evidence cycling helps.

Does creatine cause hair loss?

One small study raised the question decades ago; it has not been replicated. There's no good evidence for the claim.

Should women take creatine?

The mechanism isn't sex-specific and the research supports the same use.
