How to choose in-person personal training near Morton Grove
Choose in-person personal training by asking six things: who writes the program, whether it starts with an intake, how many people share the hour, what happens when you get hurt, what the room is like, and what the price includes. My answers are below. Use the same questions on anyone else you are comparing, in Morton Grove or anywhere.
Part of in-person personal training in Morton Grove, $68 a session at my garage gym. Prices and booking, or call or text (847) 387-0244.
Who writes your program?
Ask this first. In a lot of gyms the trainer on the floor is delivering a program somebody else wrote, or a template with your name typed on it. In my garage the person coaching the set is the person who wrote it, and the notes from today go straight into next week.
Does it start with a real intake?
Goals, injuries, schedule, the equipment you own, the food you actually eat. If the first session starts with a workout instead of those questions, the program cannot have been built for you. The intake is where the plan gets its judgement.
Mine is a ten-minute form with a health screen. A yes on the screen does not disqualify you. It tells me what to work around, and the first session is shaped by it before you arrive.
If a coach skips this step, everything after it is a guess dressed as a program.
How many people share the hour?
One is 1-on-1. Three or four, each on their own plan, is small group training. Twenty on a timer is a class. All three have a place, but only the first two come with your own program. Know which one you are buying before you look at the price.
What happens when something hurts?
The right answer is that the plan works around it, never through it, and that pain that does not settle goes to a professional. If a coach tells you to push through, walk. No trainer is a doctor, and the ones worth paying say so on the first day.
Is the room right for you?
Mine is a garage with a full free-weight setup: bar, plates, rack, floor. No machines, no queue, no music you did not choose. That suits learning the main lifts. If you want a treadmill and a pool, a club is the better room, and that is fine.
The address is not on the site because the gym is my home. It comes with your booking. People drive in from Skokie, Niles, Glenview, Park Ridge, Lincolnwood, Evanston and Wilmette.
What does the price include?
$68 a session, $248 for four, $698 for twelve with the 13th free, and no sign-up fee. That includes the intake, the program, the session notes and the form guides in the library. The full breakdown is in what in-person personal training costs, and the online plans sit beside it on the personal training page.
If you are weighing the garage against training online, read in-person against online coaching. Then start with the application or the interest form on the in-person personal training page. I reply within two days.
Common questions
Should I look for a certification?
Ask about it, then ask the six questions above. Time on the floor and a real intake tell you more about the next six months than a certificate does. I have been coaching since 2003 and I would still rather you judged the intake.
How do I know the program is mine and not a template?
It names your equipment, your schedule and your injury. A template does not know you have a bad knee or a garage with one bar.
What if I want to try one session first?
Book one. $68, no pack required. If it is not the right room, you will know by the end of the warm-up.
